The Need

There are 63 indigenous language groups and over 350 different dialects in Mexico. The indigenous population in Mexico is over 26 million people – around 20% of Mexico’s total population. There are around 100 people groups ranging in size from a few hundred to over 600,000 people.

The Goal

Generational Discipleship

For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

Complex Contexts

There are several complexities that make reaching the indigenous peoples of Mexico challenging:

  • Alcoholism permeates their society
  • Poverty debilitates their hope
  • Almost every woman has been sexually assaulted and so have most of the boys
  • Suicide is all too common
  • Fear controls their lives
  • Almost all the people groups are involved in the drug industry
  • Cartel violence is normalized
  • Racial injustice – outright racism between the Mexicans and the indigenous people runs deep
  • Difficult languages to learn
  • Challenging places to reach – rural mountains, deep forests, guarded communities, scattered into cities
  • The belief in a false Jesus who they claim they already know about
